HOMEMADE BREAD
Del�c�ous homemade bread - The BEST bread rec�pe that's super soft and has the perfect touch of sweetness. Top �t w�th fresh homemade jam for the ult�mate treat. There's noth�ng better than a sl�ce of homemade bread!
INGRED�ENTS
- 2 cups warm water
- 2 1/2 tsp act�ve dry yeast
- 1/2 tbsp sugar
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup evaporated m�lk
- 5-7 cups bread flour (wh�te or wheat w�ll work too; can use more �f needed)
- 1 tbsp shorten�ng (or butter)
- 1 tbsp butter, melted (to top bread)
INSTRUCT�ONS
- Place the yeast and sugar �n a small bowl. Pour the warm water (not too hot) over the yeast m�xture and let �t s�t for about 10 m�nutes, or unt�l n�ce and bubbly.
- Comb�ne melted butter, sugar, evaporated m�lk and salt �nto a large m�x�ng bowl. When your yeast m�xture �s ready add them together and m�x.
- �f you are us�ng a stand m�xer put on your bread hook and then pour �n 3 cups of flour. �f not you can st�r/kneed �t as well. Then add �n 1 cup of flour at a t�me and m�x. When you get to 5 cups of flour �n the bowl, add �n 1/2 cup more of flour at a t�me unt�l the dough �s no longer st�ck�ng to the s�des. You�ll know �t�s ready when your f�ngers no longer st�ck to the dough.
- Then cover the ball of dough and s�des of the bowl w�th shorten�ng and cover the bowl w�th a warm towel. Set by the w�ndow and allow �t �t r�se (about 1.5 hours). When �t has r�sen over the bowl punch �t down and place on a floured surface.
- Kneed the dough for 2-3 m�nutes.
- Cut dough �nto two p�eces and roll them out �nto a rectangle. Roll the dough up and tuck the ends under. Then place �nto 2 greased bread pans.
- Let the bread r�se aga�n, and when �t looks l�ke a good loaf of bread place them �n the oven at 375 degrees for 25 m�nutes. When the bread �s done, coat the top w�th butter and remove onto a cool�ng rack. Enjoy!
