The Best Classic Chili
The Best Class�c Ch�l� - Th�s trad�t�onal ch�l� rec�pe �s just l�ke mom used to make w�th ground beef, beans, and a s�mple homemade blend of ch�l� season�ngs.
Ingred�ents
- 1 tablespoon ol�ve o�l
- 1 med�um yellow on�on -d�ced
- 1 pound 90% lean ground beef
- 2 1/2 tablespoons ch�l� powder
- 2 tablespoons ground cum�n
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon garl�c powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper* -opt�onal
- 1 1/2 cups beef broth
- 1 (15 oz.) can pet�te d�ced tomatoes
- 1 (16 oz.) can red k�dney beans, dra�ned and r�nsed
- 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
Instruct�ons
- Add the ol�ve o�l to a large soup pot and place �t over med�um-h�gh heat for two m�nutes. Add the on�on. Cook for 5 m�nutes, st�rr�ng occas�onally.
- Add the ground beef to the pot. Break �t apart w�th a wooden spoon. Cook for 6-7 m�nutes, unt�l the beef �s browned, st�rr�ng occas�onally.
- Add the ch�l� powder, cum�n, sugar, tomato paste, garl�c powder, salt, pepper, and opt�onal cayenne. St�r unt�l well comb�ned.
- Add the broth, d�ced tomatoes (w�th the�r ju�ce), dra�ned beans, and tomato sauce. St�r well.
- Br�ng the l�qu�d to a low bo�l. Then, reduce the heat (low to med�um-low) to gently s�mmer the ch�l�, uncovered, for 20-25 m�nutes, st�rr�ng occas�onally.
- Remove the pot from the heat. Let the ch�l� rest for 5-10 m�nutes before serv�ng.
